PumpkinFest is back for the 9th Annual Harvest Community Festival!

Come and celebrate the harvest season at PumpkinFest—an old-fashioned, community-style day with family-friendly activities.

On average over 5,000 people come together each year at the West Vancouver Community Centre to enjoy farm animals, old-fashioned games, artisan market, home and harvest competition, watch police and firemen demonstrations, participate in free swimming, gymnastics and skating, enjoy local food vendors and listen to fantastic local talent.

HOME AND HARVEST COMPETITION GUIDELINES 

*Only one entry per SUBCATEGORY per person*

*Product must be created by exhibitor*

*Entries should include participant’s name, age, category & subcategory, and contact info (forms will be provided during drop-off)*

 

Children's categories and subcategories 

Art (Ex. Paintings) - Under 5, Ages 6-9, Ages 10-14, Ages 15-18

  • Submission guidelines: All paintaings must be on paper, card, canvas or similar. The painting may be mounted and/or framed.
  • Judging criteria: Level of complexity, originality & creativity, quality and composition, craftsmanship, overall design and visual impact 

Baking - Ages 6-9, Ages 10-14, Ages 15-18

  • Submission guidelines: All items must be exhibited on a flat plate and covered in transparent cling wrap 
  • Judging criteria: Appearance before slicing, texture & consistency of crust or top, inside texture, strength of flavour, balance, mouth feel, after taste, level of creativity, overall impression 

General crafts (Ex. Lego designs) - Under 5, Ages 6-9, Ages 10-14, Ages 15-18

  • Judging criteria: Level of complexity, originality & creativity, quality and composition, craftsmanship, overall design and visual impact 

Photography - Ages 6-9, Ages 10-14, Ages 15-18

  • Submission guidelines: The photograph can be edited. All photographs must be printed on paper, card or similar. The photographs may be mounted and/or framed. Minimum size 5"x7"
  • Judging criteria: Creativity and originality. Quality of artistic composition and colour. Overall impression of the art. What is the effect of the artwork in general and as a whole? Overall, does the artwork stand on its own as a complete and outstanding work of art.

 

Adult categories and subcategories 

Crafts - Knitting, quilting, weaving, pottery, jewelry, other 

  • Judging criteria: Level of complexity, accuracy, originality & creativity, quality and composition, craftsmanship, overall design and visual impact 

Painting - Landscape: nature and communities, portrait

  • Submission guidelines: All paintaings must be on paper, card, canvas or similar. The painting may be mounted and/or framed.
  • Judging criteria: Level of complexity, originality & creativity, quality and composition, craftsmanship, overall design and visual impact 

Photography - Black and white, Landscape, Portrait

  • Submission guidelines: The photograph can be edited. All photographs must be printed on paper, card or similar. The photographs may be mounted and/or framed. Minimum size 5"x7"
  • Judging criteria: Creativity and originality. Quality of artistic composition and colour. Overall impression of the art. What is the effect of the artwork in general and as a whole? Overall, does the artwork stand on its own as a complete and outstanding work of art.

Flora extraordinaire (Flowers) - Fresh floral arrangement, dried flower arrangement, tallest/biggest sunflower

  • Submission guidelines: Home or garden grown only. Flowers must be in a waterproof container. 
  • Judging criteria: Level of creativity, originality, skill & structure, visual impact, Sunflower; flower head quality, diameter size, uniformity and height

Homegrown champions (Best fruits and vegetables) - Bizarre Bob (ugliest veggie), largest produce (pumpkin, tomato, squash), Homegrown unicorn (most unique and unusual), tomatoes, root vegetables 

  • Submission guidelines: Produce must be fresh, and home/ garden grown only (no rotting submissions)
  • Judging criteria: Skin quality, shape, uniformity, size & weight, colour, overall impression

Preserved fruits and vegetables - Jams, jellies, pickles, marmalade, chutneys and relish 

  • Submission guidelines: Jars should be made of clear glass and free from any commerical or trademarks. Item must have an unbroken preservation seal. Label should state the contents and the date of making.
  • Judging criteria: Appearance, size, uniformity, colour of fruit and liquid, texture, flavour

Honey 

  • Submission guidelines: Honey should be produced from personal hives (general area provided). Jars should be made of clear glass and free from any commerical or trademarks. Label should state the contents and the date of making
  • Judging criteria: Appearance, size, uniformity, colour, texture, flavour

Bread

  • Submission guidelines: All items must be exhibited on a flat dish, covered in transparent cling wrap
  • Judging criteria: Use of ingredients and craftsmanship, shape, uniformity & size, composition, texture, moisture, colour, flavour & aroma, overall impression

Baked goods - cakes, cookies, vegan/gluten-free, ***special ingredient category - Matcha***

  • Submission guidelines: All items must be exhibited on a flat dish, covered in transparent cling wrap
  • Judging criteria: Appearance before slicing, texture & consistency of crust or top, inside texture, strength of flavour, balance, mouth feel, after taste, level of creativity, overall impression 

Peter Jones Memorial Pie 

  • Submission guidelines: All items must be exhibited on a flat dish, covered in transparent cling wrap
  • Judging criteria: Appearance before slicing, texture & consistency of crust or top, inside texture, strength of flavour, balance, mouth feel, after taste, level of creativity, overall impression
